Preventing Mosquitoes on Your Property

Keeping your outdoor space free of standing water is an important first step to deterring mosquitoes from considering your property an ideal breeding ground. Mosquitoes favor areas with standing water or damp soil to lay their eggs. These areas may include wetlands, pools, sandboxes, plastic toys, underneath or around downspouts, plant saucers, dog bowls, etc.

Other problem areas may include tarps, clogged rain gutters, and flat roofs. It is important to address these problem areas whenever possible by cleaning gutters, removing debris/clutter from the yard that may collect water, etc.

Preventing Ticks on Your Property

Look out for ideal tick habitats such as leaf piles, shrubs, tree lines, and tall grass around your home.

Ticks cannot jump, they latch onto their new hosts by extending their legs from areas such as blades of grass, leaves, or branches.

Ticks require a high humidity environment so they tend to avoid areas that are in direct sunlight or well-trimmed lawns and shrub.
