Get the Professionals to Permanently Remove Birds from Your Business

Birds may be fun to watch outdoors, but when it comes to your business or commercial property, these feathered animals are unwelcome pests.

In truth, birds are more than just a nuisance. They are a serious hazard that can jeopardize the health and safety of employees, clients, and your business itself. Droppings, nesting materials, and bird-borne pests and parasites pose a clear danger. Additionally, contamination could force the health department to shut your business down for days or even weeks until the problem is resolved.

Some common commercial bird control species include:

Pigeons come in different varieties and can be found in urban as well as rural areas. Depending on where they are living, they can survive for three to 15 years. The most common damage from pigeon infestation is droppings, which can carry diseases and may deteriorate buildings and structures.

Starlings are found in rural and urban areas and are immune to most forms of disturbance. A starlings’ lifespan is two to three years. They live in colonies that are a noise disturbance, and their droppings can cause disease and create hazardous conditions.

Sparrows can live up to 13 years and are found near farms, rural areas, and urban environments. Sparrows can contaminate food sources, damage crops, and cause disease through droppings.

Swallows are often found in urban and rural areas and can live for up to 16 years. Swallow droppings can cause hazardous conditions and can carry diseases.

Seagulls are commonly found near bodies of water, but as successful scavengers, have adapted to live near any source of accessible food. Seagulls can live for up to 20 years. Not only can seagulls be a nuisance, but their droppings can also cause damage and carry diseases.

If your office or workplace is a health institution or place with frequent customers, such as a store or restaurant, the sighting of these pests can be extremely damaging to your reputation. And in some situations, it could be a health violation. Commercial bird removal and control provided by Catseye Pest Control offers the essential protection you need for the health and safety of your property and business.

How It Works

To prevent an infestation or damage to your business, points of entry need to be sealed and nesting spots must be eliminated. More importantly, damaged areas of the roof, fascia, or soffit will need to be repaired. Eliminating the points of entry help to encourage birds to seek solitude elsewhere.

Importance of Commercial Bird Removal and Control

Birds bring a multitude of potential health risks and other hazards along with them. Not only could they contaminate food and surfaces, but they may introduce diseases and other pests into spaces inhabited by humans. Accumulated droppings on outdoor sidewalks may pose a slip and fall hazard, opening your commercial property to the risk of liability. Additionally, bird nests and droppings can damage structures, leading to costly repairs.

Bird Transmitted Diseases

Birds can carry a number of pathogens that cause illness and irritation, ranging from minor skin infections to serious diseases. Infections can spread from birds to humans through direct contact with birds and their feathers, contact with contaminants, or via secondary vectors that spread diseases.

A few examples of bird-borne infectious diseases include:

  • Avian influenza
  • Psittacosis
  • Newcastle disease
  • Salmonellosis
  • Eastern equine encephalitis
  • Histoplasmosis
  • Cryptococcosis

Bird Parasites

Microscopic organisms can live inside birds’ organs, including their intestines, and may also infect their feathers or skin. A few common parasites include:

  • Roundworms
  • Tapeworms
  • Protozoa such as Giardia
  • Swallow bugs
  • Chewing lice
  • Mites
  • Fleas
  • Ticks

Insects That Can Be Found in Bird Nests

Soffits, siding, eaves, gutters, and a few other prime spots are all vulnerable to birds building nests. In some locations, such as gutters and drainage areas, bird nests can create severe moisture problems.

Although that is a concern that can lead to significant costly damage, bird nests often harbor parasites that feed on baby birds in the nest. Once baby birds leave their nests, those insects may seek out other hosts. These parasitic insects include fleas, ticks, and bird mites.

Bird mites commonly make their way indoors, where these pests are often mistaken for bed bugs. Although they don’t feed on humans to live, they do bite people at times. Bird mite bites can cause itching, red bumps, and potential complications such as bacterial skin infections.

Bird Exclusion Services

Professional bird control typically takes two forms: commercial bird removal and commercial bird exclusion. Exclusion helps prevent birds from roosting and deters them from entering commercial properties. Catseye offers multiple options that can be used individually or combined to help achieve effective control.

Bird Netting and Wire

We can install three-quarter-inch black polyethylene flush to the underside of building structures using secure fasteners. The bird netting gets pulled tightly, and we add zippers in key access areas to prevent bird infestations without hindering human access as needed.

If the property has any horizontal pipes below the netting, we also install bird wire and a spring system to prevent birds from roosting there.

In both cases, the structure and all pipes remain fully functional and serviceable. Bird netting and wire are commonly used when treating for pigeons, sparrows, seagulls, and swallows.

Bird Spikes and Slides

Spikes can be effective for guarding against certain birds in specific situations, but they don’t offer a complete solution. When we install bird spikes, we cut them to the appropriate size for installation on horizontal surfaces to prevent roosting.

Bird slides offer an option for small ledges. We take high-performance metal and custom cut and bend it at 45-degree angles to eliminate roosting.

Bird Deterrents

Sonic, ultrasonic, laser, and other visual deterrents offer species and site-specific approaches to keep birds from roosting and prevent them from entering interior spaces. Our sonic and ultrasonic deterrents use a four-speaker indoor system, while visual deterrents rely on changing patterns and lasers to confuse and repel birds.

Bird deterrents are used when treating for pigeons (using ultrasonic deterrents or bird lasers), starlings (using sonic devices that mimic predator calls), and sparrows (also using ultrasonic devices).

Bird Removal and Restoration Services

Just as we have multiple strategies for our bird exclusion services, Catseye also takes several approaches for efficient commercial bird removal. Our fully licensed, trained, and educated technicians choose the most appropriate, effective, and environmentally friendly methods to suit each unique circumstance. Eviction approaches include trapping, physical removal, and harassment, among others.

Once the colony is eliminated, we will apply pesticides as needed to control any parasites, mites, or other pests.

Catseye technicians also remove nests, clean up droppings, and disinfect all affected areas.

Bird Deterrents for Your Business

Catseye Pest Control uses a variety of visual and sound bird deterrents to encourage the birds to leave the structure and not return.

These deterrents include bird spikes, bird netting, and predator bird call boxes. This equipment makes it uncomfortable for birds to build their nest on your home, business, or any other structure.

Catseye also performs minor repairs to buildings which prevent the birds from getting inside or building a nest in the future.

Keep Birds Out Permanently

When dealing with a bird problem, wildlife exclusion is the only way to ensure that the problem never returns.

Catseye’s Cat-Guard Exclusion Systems are a permanent bird exclusion solution that protects buildings and other structures from being taken over by wildlife.

To do so, our pest and nuisance wildlife technicians utilize long-term solutions like full building seal-ups.

Catseye Adheres to Current Good Manufacturing Practices
