Solving the Mysterious Bug Bite

Pest Control Professional Works to Solve Mystery

Who doesn’t enjoy a good mystery?

In our years of pest management, we have had some interesting ones presented to us. We must say that there is a great deal of satisfaction in being able to find the solution to the most difficult ones.

On the other hand there is no greater frustration than to deal with the mystery pest. You know the one – the individual is claiming that they are being bitten by some insect. However, the evidence does not support the conclusion.

For example, we were presented with a situation that had been going on for about one year. One individual was experiencing what seemed like bug bites. It’s quite clear the person’s skin has been irritated, but the question is: What caused it?

Home Inspection Starts with Interview

In order to solve this mystery, we launched a very systematic investigation, starting with an in depth interview of the client. Some of the questions asked in the interview include: Have you recently changed your detergent or soap? Have you installed new carpeting? How many in the home have had the same reaction? Have you seen a doctor and if yes what was his/her diagnosis? After receiving answers to these questions, we began an inspection, not overlooking any part of the home. This is done with delectate care since part of the inspection includes examining the individual’s private items.

High-Tech Monitors Rule Out Bug Mystery

Once we had completed the inspection, we reviewed the findings with the homeowner.  We recommended the installation of monitors throughout the home to determine if in fact an insect was the culprit. After a week, the monitors were examined and debris of all types from, dust to fibers and skin flakes were caught but no insects. You would think that the person would be relieved, but not exactly. This only triggers more anxiety, which could be a result of delusions of parasitosis. It’s obvious something is causing the irritation. It is important to keep in mind that an insect bite is difficult even for a physician to diagnose (unless they have the insect).

There has been no simple solution to this case and so, “The mystery continues.” One thing you can be sure of – As long as Catseye Pest Control is on the case, the mystery will be solved.
