Opossums

Opossum

As essential background for effective opossum removal, these animals are unique for several reasons. They are the only North American marsupials. Meaning they, like female kangaroos, have a pouch on their belly where the young are carried and nourished for a time after their birth. Opossums also have a prehensile tail, like monkeys, from which they occasionally hang. The word itself means “able to grasp.”

They are also known for “playing possum”, or faking death, as a defense tactic. This trademark behavior helps to protect them from potential predators.

They are omnivorous and will eat almost anything, including carrion and garbage. Adult opossums are typically about two feet long and about 10 pounds. They are excellent climbers, have a very strong immune system and are nocturnal. Their cunning ability to get into tight locations often leads to a need for opossum removal experts.

Nuisance Concerns:

The opossum complaints received are usually due to one of four reasons; They are living under your porch, attic or shed, steal garbage or pet food, or are harassing pets. Any of these problems can be solved by our pest control team.

In our opossum removal experiences, we frequently deal with them in attics, a fact which surprises many people. Opossums in attics can leave quite a mess with their large droppings. Like many wildlife, their droppings can also carry various parasites and diseases. They are not the cleanest of animals and carry a strong odor.
