Dangers & Damage from Honey Bees
Honey bees, especially Africanized honey bees, are very protective of their hives and will aggressively defend their nests if they sense an intruder nearby. Stings can be painful and trigger allergic reactions in some people. Honey or melted wax from hives built in ceilings or walls can seep through the wall, staining insulation and sheetrock. If the hive is really big, the weight can put extra stress on that area and even puncture the wall and ceiling so that honey bees swarm into your living space. Abandoned hives built in your home will rot and may attract other pests like carpenter ants, silverfish and rodents.
Signs of Honey Bees
Buzzing and humming sounds within a wall or ceiling are a good indicator that you may have honey bees. You may also notice some honey bees flying throughout your home, looking for food. Another common sign is a “wet spot” on the wall or ceiling from the melted honey or wax comb.
Honey Bee Removal & Relocation
When removing honey bees, we always begin with identifying where the hive is in your home and contacting a local beekeeper to take the bees. If necessary, Catseye will open up the wall to gain access to the hive. We have a special “bee vacuum” that will gently suck up the bees so they can be safely relocated by the beekeeper to a new home. Once the bees are removed, Catseye will clear out the honey comb and clean the nest area. Our home repair experts are available to manage any honey bee damage repair, including fixing any openings that needed be cut in your wall or ceiling.

If a beekeeper is unable or unwilling to take the bees, or if they are an immediate threat to people or livestock, then we vacuum as many bees out of the hive as we can before removing the nest.
