The toughest jobs in pest control are oftentimes the most interesting and most satisfying part of the pest management industry.
During my 38 years in pest control, I have been in several challenging pest situations, such as the house in New York State's Capital Region that made national news as the most cockroach-infested home on record. There was also that upscale grocery store where we found more than 300 rats that had been living there for years. I have found that you need to be a Sherlock Holmes of sorts when trying to solve a client’s pest problem, and once you discover the pest involved, you must think like the pest to remove it.
Once, when visiting a rural house in Red Rock, New York, for work related to termites, I had a very unexpected surprise. I was there to perform a Termite Inspection Report for the sale of the home and, as required for the report, I asked to check the crawlspace below the house.
“Just be careful,” the homeowner said. “There may be a snake in there.”
But when I opened the crawlspace door and turned on my flashlight, my heart nearly stopped. I think I screamed like a little girl. There were hundreds – hundreds - of snakes hanging from the rafters. I have never seen anything like it in my life. Needless to say, I did my inspection from the doorway.
Once a month, we will share a gross, scary or otherwise bizarre pest story. Our team will look at how we solved these strange pest situations and how it became a problem in the first place. We share these examples for a number of reasons:
- To show you what it looks like when pests get out of control.
- To tell you how pests can surprise you.
- To make you speak up about your pest problem.
These pest situations will likely be far worse than anything we have to deal with at your home or business, so be sure to contact us for all your pest needs and let us handle the rest.
We know some pest-related question and issues are unique and maybe ever strange. We know you have those kinds of questions, and we want you to ask us them. Trust us when we say that when it comes to pests and pest control, we have heard and seen it all.
