Summer 2012 Pest Update: There’s an Uptick in Ticks!
We can’t believe it’s already mid-July. Kids have been out of school for a few weeks now.
The barbecues of July 4th are over and now we spend the next two months in the beautiful sun and heat (humidity, too). We wanted to provide you with a quick summer bug update!
Have you noticed more ticks around? We’ve had a massive increase in tick issues this summer compared to previous years. In fact, in just tick visits alone this summer, we’ve responded to 88% more calls!
Ticks are a serious problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1,100 cases of babesiosis from 15 states were reported in 2011, and most of them occurred in the Northeast.
Babesiosis can cause nausea, fever and headache in people infected through tick bites. With these pests invading our back yards and neighborhood parks more this summer than we can remember, we want to remind you to take care to protect yourself, your family members and pets whenever you spend time outdoors.
Whether protecting yourself against ticks, mosquitoes or other pesky pests this summer, we hope you remember to keep wearing bug spray, keep up on your landscaping and debris removal, and watch for signs of bug intrusion into your house.
And as always, if you need an extra hand ridding yourself of any pest issue, don’t forget to call Catseye.
