Have you ever heard of the hissing cockroaches? A group of Girl Scout Brownies from Berkshire County just learned all about the pest species.
On Sunday, February 24, 2nd-grade Girl Scout Brownies were invited to a special bug-themed program, where Catseye Pest Control Manager Chris Quinn shared information about these hissing cockroaches and helped Brownies view the pesky bugs up-close. The girls were able to ask questions about these and other bugs and ultimately earn their Bug Badge to take home and proudly wear.
"The Girl Scout event in Pittsfield, MA this past weekend was a success," according to Chris. "The young girls asked a lot of great questions and even helped me name my new hissing cockroaches, Cookie and Brownie. They learned a lot about different types of insects and definitely earned their "bug badges!"
Hissing cockroaches are a giant member of the cockroach family, though they are very different from the common cockroaches that wreak havoc in our homes. Unlike the ones you think of when you think about unsanitary living conditions, hissing cockroaches are wingless, odorless, sanitary and move much more slowly. Something that might surprise a group of 2nd-grade Girl Scout Brownies? They make good pets!
If you live in New York's Capital Region and your children would be interested in learning about hissing cockroaches and other bugs, come out next weekend to the 2013 Hannaford Kidz Expo, taking place Saturday, March 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Catseye Pest Control will be there with a hissing cockroaches exhibit, pest experts and lots of goodies given away by Caddie for your family to take home.
Caddie loves going out to meet the people in our regions. Just last week, he ventured out to Empire Skate Plaza with a bunch of Capital District's favorite characters for Mascot Mayhem. Check out the photos below! If you want to visit Empire "Skate" Plaza one more time this season, hurry - the rink closes March 3!
Hope to see you out at a local event soon!
