Feel that chill in the air? If you're like some members of our team, you're taking your air conditioning units out of your windows this week and pulling the extra blankets out of your linen closet. Fall is almost here, and when you shut your windows to keep out the cold, you'll have to start thinking about how to keep something else out... Critters!
Just as you're starting to feel chilly, so are rats, mice, squirrels, skunks, raccoons, woodchucks and chipmunks, not to mention bats and birds. They'll seek out warm places to stay, and what place is better than your comfy home?
And once they're in your home? Oh boy. Did you know the average House Mouse can have up to five litters each year, and every litter can have five to ten young? The Norway Rat has between four and six litters every year, and each of those can result in six to twelve young! Imagine that, along with all the other critters that can make new warm homes in your basement, attics, closets and elsewhere.
Pest proofing is vitally important this time of year, and that is why we recommend sealing up all your entry points before you have to deal with critter eviction! Check your windows, walls and floors, doorways, and all those dark corners in the backs of closets, pantries and bathrooms that can be hidden entry places to find where you are unknowingly welcoming in new housemates.
For professional help, look to Catseye's Cat-Guard Exclusion System, which uses high-perfomance materials and processes to prevent these critters from accessing your home, keeping disease, debris and messes outside.
As summer turns to fall, we hope you stay warm and make sure your pets are the only furry creatures allowed inside your home!
