Gettin’ Buggy & Crafty: Toilet Paper Roll Bats

A cardboard tube, a paintbrush, two paint tubes, and two black pipe cleaners are arranged on a dark wooden surface, ready for a crafting project.

We wanted to get into the Halloween spirit for this Pinterest-inspired project! We thought these Vampire Bats made from recycled toilet paper rolls were a little creepy…and a little cute. Make these toilet paper roll bats with the kids and use them to decorate the house for the most haunted night of the year!

tp_roll_bat_suppliesVampire Bats are the only mammals that have a blood-only diet. There are three species of Vampire Bats that can be found in regions throughout Mexico, Central America and South America. They usually feed on cows, horses and other livestock. The bite of a Vampire Bat will not kill you, but could lead to an infection.

paint_tp_roll_blackBegin by painting the toilet paper roll black and allow the paint to fully dry before going to the next step.

fold_tp_roll_to_make_earsFold in one end of the toilet paper roll. Now your bat has ears!

paint_face_on_batUse paint to add eyes, teeth and some dripping blood to your Vampire Bat. Don’t be afraid to get creative!

add_legs_to_batUse the single-hole punch to make a hole on each side of the end that isn’t folded. String a pipe cleaner through the holes to create your Vampire Bat’s legs.

finished_tp_batsNow let your Vampire Bat do what it does best, hang upside-down! Happy Halloween!
