Gettin’ Buggy & Crafty: Toilet Paper Roll Bats
We wanted to get into the Halloween spirit for this Pinterest-inspired project! We thought these Vampire Bats made from recycled toilet paper rolls were a little creepy…and a little cute. Make these toilet paper roll bats with the kids and use them to decorate the house for the most haunted night of the year!
Materials
- Toilet Paper Rolls
- Pipe Cleaners
- Black, White and Red Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Single-Hole Punch (not pictured)
Vampire Bats are the only mammals that have a blood-only diet. There are three species of Vampire Bats that can be found in regions throughout Mexico, Central America and South America. They usually feed on cows, horses and other livestock. The bite of a Vampire Bat will not kill you, but could lead to an infection.
Begin by painting the toilet paper roll black and allow the paint to fully dry before going to the next step.
Fold in one end of the toilet paper roll. Now your bat has ears!
Use paint to add eyes, teeth and some dripping blood to your Vampire Bat. Don’t be afraid to get creative!
Use the single-hole punch to make a hole on each side of the end that isn’t folded. String a pipe cleaner through the holes to create your Vampire Bat’s legs.
Now let your Vampire Bat do what it does best, hang upside-down! Happy Halloween!
