DIY Bubble Wrap Beehive

A person is tracing a drawing on a piece of bubble wrap with a marker. The bubble wrap is placed on a wooden surface. The hands and marker are visible, and the outline of the drawing starts to become clear on the bubble wrap.

Yum, who doesn’t love fresh honey? At Catseye, we’re always fascinated by not only the honey bee, but the beautiful hives they create! Not only do they produce delicious honey that can help with building a tolerance to your local pollen, but honey bees are responsible for pollinating our plants. We’d like to celebrate these fascinating creatures by making our own beehive using bubble wrap. Here’s how:

What you need:

  • Bubble wrap
  • Brown & white construction paper
  • Yellow paint (washable)
  • Paper plate
  • Paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Black marker

Step 1: Using the marker, draw a beehive shape on the bubble wrap.A person is tracing a drawing on a piece of bubble wrap with a marker. The bubble wrap is placed on a wooden surface. The hands and marker are visible, and the outline of the drawing starts to become clear on the bubble wrap.

Step 2: Carefully cut the shape.

Step 3: Using your yellow paint, paint a thin coat onto the bubble wrap (bubble side).A person uses a foam brush to apply yellow paint on a sheet of bubble wrap placed on a wooden surface. A white paper plate holding yellow paint is beside them. The scene suggests a craft or artistic activity.

Step 4: Carefully and quickly, stamp the painted bubble wrap onto the white construction paper – set aside to dry.Two hands are pressing down on a piece of white paper cut into a shape, placed on a flat wooden surface. The paper has a yellow and white patterned fabric or material underneath, appearing as though it's being traced or outlined.

Step 5: Using your marker, draw a door on the brown construction paper, then cut it out.A pair of hands is cutting a brown piece of paper with blue-handled scissors. The paper has a curved shape drawn on it. The background is a wooden surface.

Step 6: Once dry, draw an outline around your beehive, then glue the door.

Step 7: Using a small amount of yellow paint, take your thumb and dab the honey bees around the hive. Two hands pressing a white paper printed with a large, dotted numeral "8" and several yellow dots. A white paper plate with a yellow paint circle is next to it on a wooden table. A person is working on an art project involving finger or stamp painting.

Step 8: Once everything is dry, take your marker and draw each bee’s face, stripes, stinger, and wings.A person is drawing a beehive and bees on a piece of paper. Their left hand is resting on the paper while the right hand holds a black marker to add details. The drawing shows a yellow beehive with several small bees around it. The table is wooden.
