Why We Help Wishes Come True
Catseye employees fought to hold back tears during this year’s kickoff event for the sixth annual Catseye Cares for Kids Campaign, which benefits Make-A-Wish Northeast New York. All of our northeast staff squished into the biggest room of our office to meet Anthony, whose wish Catseye proudly sponsored in 2013, and listen to his story. Everyone at Catseye has helped in our efforts to support Make-A-Wish, but don’t always get to see how all their hard work makes a difference. This year, we wanted to change that.
Anthony’s Story
“Scary” can’t describe what it was like when 12-year-old Anthony and his family found out he had bone cancer. A grapefruit-sized lump on his ribcage would lead to nine excruciating months of chemotherapy and tedious weeklong stays at the hospital. There was one thing that really helped this Saratoga Springs family get through the tough times — a wish. Anthony’s wish to meet his favorite major league baseball team, the Los Angeles Angels was granted by Make-A-Wish Northeast New York. Anthony, his parents and his two sisters were flown to California where they met the team. Anthony took photos with some of his favorite players, got a signed jersey and went on the field during batting practice. While the wish experience was absolutely amazing, the most important part of the wish was the anticipation leading up to the trip. This excitement helped Anthony and his family get through his treatments by giving them something to look forward to.
Why We Give To Make-A-Wish
At Catseye, we care about families — it’s what makes us who we are. Not only do we care about our employees’ families, but the families in our communities too. We choose to support Make-A-Wish because they provide “hope, strength and joy” to local children with life-threatening medical conditions. These wishes bring happiness to these children and their families during difficult times.
Anthony and his family thanked us for our support of Make-A-Wish, but really, we would like to thank them. Anthony’s story is heartwarming and inspiring. Our favorite moment was when Anthony exclaimed, “And now I’m cancer-free!”
